Reading is free. Asking is a membership.

Reading, searching and exporting cost a page load and need no account. Asking for an article puts a research loop, a fact pass and a person’s attention to work, and that is what a membership covers.

Reading will not become paid

An encyclopedia behind a paywall is not an encyclopedia. Its whole value is that it can be read, linked and cited, and gating that would remove the reason to build it.

Requests are metered, reads never are

A request is a research loop plus a consensus pass plus review; a read is a static file. Charging by read would be charging for the thing that has to be free.

The gate is also the abuse control

Requiring an account to request is not only pricing. It is what stops the corpus being flooded and what keeps the deduplication check a bounded cost.

No separate plan

There is no Leumapedia subscription. Requests ride the existing membership tiers, because nobody buys a second subscription for an encyclopedia on a platform they already pay for.
